Arkansas Railroad Museum
See railroading memorabilia plus historic rail cars and engines, including the "819" (circa 1942), the last 4-8-4 Northern-type steam locomotive to be built at Pine Bluff. Museum open weekdays and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Located at 1700 Port Road (Port of Pine Bluff Exit) just off U.S. 65-B. Arts and Science Center for Southeast Arkansas Visit the Arts Center at 701 Main Street to view works from the center's permanent collection and traveling exhibits from around the country, as well as works by regional and local professional and amateur artists. Accredited by the American Association of Museums and recently named "Museum of the Year" by the Arkansas Museums Association. Call (870) 536-3375 for more information. Dexter Harding Tourist Information Center
Located at 110 N. Pine Street, this was once the home of Dexter Harding, a pioneer settler in the area. Now it serves as the city's visitor information center and the offices of Pine Bluff Downtown Development. The hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Mondays through Fridays. Gov. Mike Huckabee Delta Rivers Nature Center
Opened in 2001 by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, the $4.5 million center offers attractions unique to this area: a one-half mile nature trail; instructional/historical displays of the Arkansas River; a 7,000-gal. river aquarium; a 16,000-gal. oxbow lake aquarium; and a 13,000-SF museum resembling a Delta hunting lodge. Closed Mondays. Open Tuesday-Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Sunday 1 to 4 p.m. Free Admission. (Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend: open until 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday.) Japanese Garden -
Located at the Pine Bluff Civic Center, 200 East Eighth Avenue, this was a gift from Pine Bluff's Sister City, Iwai City, Japan. This Garden was designed on the traditional principles of Japanese Gardens by five Master Japanese Gardeners. It is referred to (by signage) as the International Friendship Garden, two-thirds of which consist of a large berm with trees and shrubs on it, along with a strip of white pea gravel representing a River of Friendship, followed by a grassy area representing the lowlands of Japan.

Keepers Of The Spirit

Martha Mitchell's Home Place
Pine Bluff native Martha Beall Mitchell was thrust into the spotlight of the Watergate Affair, becoming a catalyst for national news during the Richard Nixon administration. Her childhood home, circa 1887, was restored by the Bob Abbott Family and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Motocross Track Racing
Every third Sunday, except December & January. Riders welcome. Events feature both motorcycles and 4-wheelers. 10:30 am - 5:00 pm, admission $8; under 6 and over 65 free. For additional information contact Cycle & Marine Center, (870) 536-6500.

Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Historical Museum
Located in the restored railroad depot at 201 East Fourth Avenue, to get a glimpse of the county's history and view exhibits such as "Dolls With Stories to Tell," "Bayou Meto Waterfowl," "Three Wars," "Treasurers Lost," "The Quapaws-Pine Bluff's First Inhabitants," "Story of the Arkansas Flag," and "A Fabric in Time - Bits and Pieces of Black History in Jefferson County." Pine Bluff Art League Gallery
League of local artists, with offices at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Services Center at 211 West Third Avenue, offers classes and workshops plus a continuous exhibit of original artworks along the hallways of the Reynolds Center. Paintings, which are for sale, can be viewed Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. or call 870-534-1699 for more information.

Saracen Landing
Located at Lake Saracen, Saracen Landing is one of the city's newest attractions. Saracen Landing is a pavilion complex on the south shore of the lake and is the new site of the Farmers Market, where people will find a variety of produce from local and area farmers. The multipupose facility will also be used to host weddings, reunions, craft fairs, concerts, car shows, picnics and other activities. The Farmers Market is open from 6:00 am to 1:00 pm Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. To schedule an event, call the Pine Bluff Parks and Recreation Department at 870-536-0920.

The Band Museum
Visit the only museum in the country devoted entirely to band instruments and band music. See hundreds of vintage and antique instruments. Located at 423 Main Street. Call (870) 534-4676 for more information. Admission is free but donations are accepted. Old-fashioned soda fountain located inside the museum.

The Grider Field Museum
Located at 709 Hanger Row, Grider field Road, this museum is housed in the terminal building. It spotlights the period of time when te Pine bluff School of Aviation was established by the U.S. Army Air Corps and trained more than 9,000 pilots for World War II at restored aircraft hangers, barracks, monument memorabilia and World War II aircraft. The hours are from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday through Friday and 8:00 am to 7:00 pm Saturday and Sunday. Additional information is available by calling 870-534-4131.

Trinity Episcopal Church
Located at 703, W. Third Ave., it is the oldest Episcopal Church in continuous use in Arkansas. It is also a great example of Gothic architecture. Tours are availible by calling the church office at 870-534-3832.

Black History Essay Contest - The Ivy Center is sponsoring this contest in observance of Black History Month and the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary Students from fourth through sixth grades; junior high students seventh through ninth grades; and high school students, 10th through 12th grades, in all Jefferson County schools are encouraged to participate. The topic is "The Most Outstanding African-American in My Community." East entrant will explain why he or she chose his or her community servant and tell what he or she has done to make the community a better place to live. The essay must be typed, double spaced and should not exceed 250 words. Cash prizes will be awarded for first and second place winners in each grade level. Representatives from Pine Bluff, Watson Chapel, Dollarway and White Hall school districts will select the winners. The deadline to enter is 5:00 p.m. February 29. Lionel Lofton Art Exhibit - The artwork of Lionel Lofton will be on exhibit in the Ledell Moorehead-Graham Gallery in the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts center on the campus of the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff. 12th Annual Knights of Columbus Lenten Fish Fries - All activities will take place in Gallagher Hall of St. Joseph Catholic Church. The fish fries will continue each Friday during Lent, except Good Friday of Holy Week. 5th Annual Tobacco-Free Drama Contest - Stamp Out Smoking (SOS), the media and public relations compaign for the Arkansas Department of Health Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Program, will sponsor this contest. Entitled, "The Big Pitch," the contest will give students the chance to write and star in their own television spot highlighting the dangers of second-hand smoke. They may win money for their school's drama departments and participate in a professions production if their spot is selected for a commercial. This contest is open to all Arkansas middle, junior and high schools. Entries must be submitted by a school sponsor, must be 27 seconds and focus on the dangers of second-hand smoke.
