Welcome to Pine Bluff/White Hall and Jefferson County!
The Pine Bluff area serves as the Southeast Arkansas regional center for business, health care, professional
services and recreation. We have a diverse manufacturing base and two industrial parks with the
infrastructure in place for successful manufacturing, distribution and warehousing operations. Our
3-county MSA population of 107,341 gives us a wide labor draw, and we're home to a 4-year
university as well as a 2-year community college known for its workforce training capabilities.
These assests are topped off by our mild Southern climate and, most important, a community with a
supportive climate for business and plenty of Southern hospitality for friends, neighbors and
visitors.
Jefferson County is in the heart of a rich agricultural area in the Arkansas River Basin. The leading
agricultural products are cotton, soybeans, cattle, rice, poultry, timber and farm-raised catfish. Pine Bluff is a
major transportation center with a complement of multi-modal services: I-530, four US highways
and five state highways; two of the nation's finest railroads -- Union Pacific and Burlington
Northern Sante Fe; air services 40 minutes' driving time to Little Rock National Airport, plus a local
municipal airport, Grider Field; and location on the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation
System.
The Port of Pine Bluff's Harbor Industrial District is located inside the Pine Bluff city limits. This
372-acre park has nine businesses, including a public terminal, and waterfront and landward sites
are available. By means of the Arkansas and Mississippi rivers, barges connect Pine Bluff to other
port cities on the nation's inland waterways and international ports around the world.
The Alliance is also planning a new technology park -- The Bioplex -- utilizing the assests of
Jefferson County's two major federal installations: the Pine Bluff Arsenal and FDA's National
Center for Toxicological Research.
The county is experiencing solid retail and commercial growth, new housing subdivisions are
springing up in Pine Bluff and White Hall, the revitalization of downtown Pine Bluff is a work in progress, our manufacturing
industries annually report millions of dollars in capital reinvestments, there are more things to "see
and do" than ever before, our hospital facilities are world class, and our caring citizens continue to
volunteer their time and money in abundance. That's the reality we know about our community!
