Education

Arkansas has emerged as a national leader in the public schools educational reform effort. Quality in education has become a stated goal for the state and its local communities. A proficiency exam is administered to juniors and seniors to measure skills in mathematics, reading and writing. Passing the exam is a requirement for graduation.

Four public school districts serve the greater Pine Bluff area, with 84% of sophomores graduating as seniors "on time." In their aggregate, the districts provide service through:
  • 4 Senior High Schools each fully accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools
  • 5 Junior High Schools / Middle Schools
...all meeting state-mandated teacher-pupil ratios.

Pine Bluff and Jefferson County is home to 19 elementary schools, each having the highest rating granted by the State Department of Education.
